Dr. Richard Ings: "There is an evident need amongst professionals in the arts sector and in the education, social and criminal justice sectors to learn more about what works in bringing people, especially young people, back into a positive engagement with their own lives and therefore with the rest of society. Similarly, there is a desire to break down the divisions that separate and exclude significant numbers of people from full citizenship. The work of companies like GMP, with a long track-record of artistic and social success, deserves to be better known but also needs to be properly documented and evaluated so that practical steps can be taken to apply elsewhere what such companies have learned. I am a suitable candidate for producing a report of this kind to the GMP, as I have specialised in documenting participatory work in the arts for 15 years. "
